Accountant and hotelier Shiraz Boghani was born in Kenya, in East Africa. After beginning his education there, in 1969 he emigrated to the United Kingdom and became qualified as an accountant.
Early in his career, he worked with Thomson McLintock & Co., now called KPMG, as a chartered accountant. He then developed an interest in the hospitality industry and the hotels became the dynamic entrepreneur’s passion. Over the past 30 years, he has owned and managed 19 trading hotels in the United Kingdom. Recently at the Asian Business Awards, he was named 2016 Hotelier of the Year.
A visionary businessman, Shiraz Boghani is credited with being among the first to promote limited service brand hotels in the 1990s. He also became joint chairman of Sussex Healthcare in 1998. The organization owns and operates almost two dozen homes where the elderly, people with neurological problems and mentally and physically challenged patients are provided with innovative, high quality, 24 hour care. Under Shiraz Boghani’s leadership, Sussex Healthcare has won numerous awards and earned a reputation for running excellent care homes where residents are treated with love and respect and given effective cutting-edge care.
Many people in the UK and worldwide are more familiar with Boghani for his incredible work in the hotel and hospitality industry. Currently he is chairman of the Splendid Hospitality Group. His flagship hotels include the Holiday Inn London, Conrad London St James and The Grand Hotel & Spa, York. Boghani also recently acquired the New Ellington located in Leeds as well as the Mercure Bristol Brigstow Hotel. Not long ago, Shiraz Boghani started an exciting, stylish new project at the Hilton London Bankside. Industry insiders anticipate it becoming a huge success.
In addition to his work as a hotelier and in the healthcare industry, Shiraz Boghani is also a committed philanthropist. For years he has volunteered his time, expertise and resources to support the Aga Khan Foundation, a UK registered charity. Boghani also lends valuable support to the Aga Khan Development, a global network that provides a variety of needed services to Ismaili communities throughout the UK and in Central Asia.
Shiraz Boghani is an Institute of Chartered Accountants fellow in England and Wales. He also works with Sojourn Hotels for whom he has successfully overseen single asset deals and their hotel portfolio. Throughout his career, Shiraz Boghani has maintained great relationships the largest funders in Europe.
