OSI President and COO David McDonald Still Enjoys the Day to Day Challenges of Running One of the World’s Premier Food Businesses:

David McDonald joined OSI Group as a project manager in 1987 immediately after his graduation from Iowa State. He is incredibly proud of the fact that he came into the company at the bottom of the ladder and now occupies the role of second in command of the global food leading company as its President, Chief Operating Officer and member of the Board of Directors. OSI is not only one of America’s top 100 food businesses but also a global enterprise with a reach extending to 17 countries worldwide. When David first came to OSI in that project manager job, the project he was given to manage was that of expanding OSI’s markets in Asia and Latin America. It was the start of a bright career that has focused on continuing the kind of global expansion that has made OSI Group a world leading company in food processing and wholesale distribution.

OSI Expansion Keeps On Rolling:

Expansion has been a constant at OSI Group during David McDonald’s time with the company. That has been particularly true in the last five years. 2014 saw OSI partner with United Kingdom firm Pickstock in a collaborative bid to expand beef distribution in the European market. 2016 was even busier with the purchase of the Tyson food plant that added a second Chicago facility to the companies roster and the acquisition of European food processing firms Baho Food and Flagship Europe. These acquisitions are expected to add greatly to OSI’s presence in the respective regions.

David McDonald On the Record:

David McDonald and his career were the topics of a recent CEOCFO Magazine Interview. David was asked about what he has done to encourage the outstanding company culture that OSI enjoys. His response is that OSI trusts its management teams to make the correct decisions since they are the ones that are closest to their customers and the markets that they serve. A big part of OSI’s expansion strategy was to build up quality partnerships with people who knew the tastes and cultural aspects of the regions they were working in. When David is asked how he has managed to remain so passionate about business after all of these years, he says that it comes down to the fact that no two days are ever the same. OSI Group’s core culture always remains the same at heart, but the challenges the company faces are always changing and evolving. David takes great pleasure in meeting these challenges head-on and finding creative solutions to them.
